Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival

Thousands of fans of theatre and the arts attend the 21st annual Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival. Enjoy a distinctive array of theatre, music, dance and art for all ages. Events take place north of downtown in Loch Haven Park and several local theatres.

In its 21st year, the Orlando International Theatre Festival is a much anticipated 13-day cultural event on May 16-28, 2012 with 100% of ticket sales benefiting the performing artists. All ages can enjoy the shows at several venues north of downtown Orlando: Loch Haven Park, The Lowndes Shakespeare Center, and the Orlando REP while kid-friendly shows (KID’S FRINGE) are at the Mennello Museum.

Although there are numerous family-appropriate events, the beauty of this festival is allowing the artists full artistic reign. Therefore, the programs are uncensored, but rated accordingly in four categories of audiences: Family-Friendly, General Audience, G-14, and Mature.  Enjoy many free performances and events on the outdoor stage in the vendor/beer tent area. BYOV shows (Bring Your Own Venue) are randomly located in unique venues, such as bathrooms, theatre lobbies, or parking lots, throughout the festival.

2012 Central Florida Dragon Boat Festival

One of the fastest growing water sports in the world, Dragon Boat racing began more than 2,000 years ago in China. Today, the ancient sport, steeped in tradition and culture, comes alive each year at the Central Florida Dragon Boat Festival.

The 10th annual, two-day Central Florida Dragon Boat Festival kicks off on Friday evening, April 13, 2012, with a team party and pre-festival events, including the traditional “Awakening of the Dragon” spirit ceremony by Chinese officials followed by a fireworks show over the lake.

The main event, the Dragon Boat races, begins with the National Anthem at 9:00 a.m. sharp on Saturday morning. Decked with Chinese dragon heads and tails, the long skinny dragon boats wait on the water with up to 20 paddlers per boat. And then, there’s the chorus of the oars churning the waters to the steady beat of the drummer as the boats glide across Lake Dora, cheered on by spectators on the shore.
