Eating Alligator in Orlando
If there is anywhere in the world where you should try alligator meat, it's Florida. Alligator meat is known as a healthy and lean alternative protein, but for some reason it hasn't quite caught on as a popular menu item. There are a few places in Orlando that serve alligator and it is certainly worth trying. Eating alligator in Orlando is sure to be a meal you will not forget.
Gatorland
It's hard to say whether Gatorland is kitschy or dated, but either way it's a fun place to visit. In Gatorland you can both see and learn about alligators, as well as eat them. This amusement park has been around since the 1940s. It's an affordable park, at least by Orlando standards. Gatorland has shows where you can see people interact with alligators. At the snack bar inside the park they serve gator nuggets. For those less adventurous souls, the snack bar also serves more traditional food like pretzels and hot dogs.
Gators Dockside
Gators Dockside has locations all over Florida including two in Orlando and one in Winter Park. This chain restaurant offers up a casual atmosphere, lots of junk food eats, and yes, gator. Gators Dockside caters to a family crowd. They offer up games, pool, coloring book, and balloon animals, making sure that everyone has fun. Gators Dockside has a large menu with many favorites. Most of the gator served here is fried and covered in sauce. It's a great introduction into the world of eating alligator.
Tibbys New Orleans Kitchen
Tibbys New Orleans Kitchen may be a cajun style restaurant with only one alligator item on the menu but it could be worth it. Tibbys New Orleans Kitchen is located in Winter Park. Check out their special dish, shrimp and alligator cheesecake. Aside from this alligator item, Tibbys New Orleans Kitchen has classic cajun dishes such as red beans and rice, and po boys.
The Black Hammock
Located outside of Orlando, The Black Hammock offers up adventure and food. At The Black Hammock you can take an airboat ride and go looking for live alligators. There are also alligators on premises that you are guaranteed to see. The Black Hammock has a restaurant that serve alligator many different ways. You can try gator bites or even a gator spring roll.
Alligator Bob's
Look for Alligator Bob's snack food all over Florida. Bob is a gator trapper who makes alligator meat products and distributes them all over the state. You can also order his products, like alligator jerky, online.
