Orlando Summer Events
Orlando has cemented its place as one of the tourism capitals of America because of its good, wholesome fun and theme parks. Indeed family friendly activities in Orlando are all over the place. And events in Orlando are happening all the time. One of the most popular times for travel to this land of theme parks is during the summer. If you plan your vacation accordingly, you may be able to enjoy some of the hottest summer events in Orlando.
Gay Days at Disney
Officially speaking, gay days at Disney are not official. They unofficially began in 1991, with several thousand from the gay and lesbian community attending. Today, the amount of people coming in from all over the country and international gay and lesbian community easily extends over 100,000 per year and may approach 200,000 sooner or later. It is truly one of the largest assemblies of the homosexual community in the world.
Decades ago, the gay and lesbian movement could only be seen in the Gay Pride Parades. However, things like visiting Disney World and other famous theme parks around the country have emerged as popular gathering scenes for the homosexual population to have a good time together. Mickey Mouse is even there, chilling.
So what goes on at gay days at Disney? Well, the Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios, and Animal Kingdom are particularly happening and many of the Disney hotels have parties. Expect pool parties, some family friendly activities, a plethora of places to drink, business conferences for promotion of LGBT friendly companies, and more. Be prepared to pay for specific events.
The gay days are typically held near the end of May or in early June, over a long weekend. It sometimes goes on for six days. If this is something that you do not wish to attend, be sure to check the dates beforehand. If it is something you wish to attend, check the dates and plan your visit accordingly.
4th of July in Orlando
4th of July in Orlando is a happening weekend of fireworks and festivities throughout all the areas of Orlando. One interesting event for those visiting Orlando with a family and a baby is the All-American Baby Contest. Held at the St. Cloud Lakefront Marina, babies are dressed up in red, white, and blue and judged based off of personality and style.
Other cool events include various concerts throughout the city. Places like Universal Studios and Silver Springs always host music shows. Parties are also held at various nightlife spots in Orlando. Expect to see many drink deals at bars in Orlando. Winter Park usually hosts a large party where beer and fun flows.
The Star Spangled Event is perhaps one of the most popular, as visitors gather together to make a human version of the red, white, and blue American flag. The Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens also hosts a plethora of activities, including music, scavenger hunts, and picnics.
Fireworks are going on all over Orlando during the weekend. The best shows are held at Daytona Beach, Universal Studios, and Lake Buena Vista. So watch those colorful explosions go off into the sky and have a grand old time on the Fourth in Orlando. After all, it is in celebration of American liberation.
Anime Festival Orlando
Anime has a particular appeal to a wide range of people. It’s no wonder the Anime Festival in Orlando has risen as one of the most popular events during the summer. This convention is held over a three day weekend every year at the Wyndham Resort, one of the finest hotels in Orlando. It is usually held in July or August.
The convention includes cosplay performances, dances, karaoke singing, forums and discussions, artist networking, video games, classes, and lectures. The event has been increasing in attendance year to year, and stands as one of the biggest anime conventions in America.
Other Events
If the Magic are in the playoffs, basketball games at Amway Center are definitely worth attending. The Orlando Triathlon in downtown Orlando in September also offers people the chance to demonstrate their strength and stamina, or at least watch people do so. Throughout the summer, music concerts at held at Harry P. Leu Gardens. The Florida Film Festival, showcasing documentaries and movies, also occurs in June.
